Social Media: My Favourite Waste of Time

Need to do something? Really can’t be bothered, and would much rather be doing something else?

Why not open up your social media apps to ‘quickly’ check what the world online is up to.

The opportunities for procrastination offered by social media are nearly endless.

For instance:

twitter

Twitter

Check notifications. A couple of tweets to reply to. Say hello to friends.

Quick scan of the timeline…ooh, that looks interesting. I didn’t know about that. Let’s click the link to find out more. Read the article, follow links to other interesting things…OK. Close the browser, got things to do.

After another glance at the timeline…

Ooh, I want to butt in to that conversation. Exchange a few tweets, bit of a banter about whatever it is.

A sale! Must look, now!

I’ll look at that other tweet in a mo. Grrr, the page has refreshed and I’ve lost it. Who was it from again? Can’t remember.

Doesn’t matter, anyway. Must. Get. On.

Blimey, what are they arguing about? *Looks at a few tweets in the exchange*. Best off out of it.

Marvel at how grown ups from all sorts of walks of life can spend all day trading insults with one another.

Ooh, that person has a new blog post. Read, write a comment.

Get distracted by a notification from…

facebook

Facebook

OK, I’ll just reply to that notification and I WILL get on with what I have to do.

But I can’t resist a quick peek at the timeline.

Click ‘like’ on a status update or two, leave a comment.

I’ll just take that quiz, even though I know it will give me a generic answer.

Why oh why does that person insist on sharing Britain First posts? Do I unfriend them? Or just block those posts? How I do I do that again…oh yes, over there.

That The Poke article looks funny – and while I’m here I’ll just check that article too…

Ooh that’s a funny video about cats and dogs. I’ll share it, too.

Hmm, that’s an interesting post, I’ll have a read. Glance at the comments – blimey, people can get really heated and mean, can’t they?

Escape to my happy place:

instagram

Instagram

Looking at pretty things…where’s that from…looks up website.

What’s the prompt for the photo challenge today? Hmm, what can I use? Where did I put it? Where’s the best place to photograph it – oh, over here. Hmm that’s not a good photo, let’s try again. Oh what filter shall I use…Posted, finally. Let’s see what other people have posted for the prompt today…

Check out a few more posts. Oh, their room is so neat and tidy!

Glances around. Unlike mine.

Time to do stuff!

Click out of the app. Put the phone down.

Is that the time?

Ah, now it’s time for a cup of tea.

Procrastination is quite an art, and social media is my favourite waste of time.

I do this ALL. THE. TIME. and then wonder why I’ve only done 1 of the 3 priorities for the day…it’s just so easy and alluring though, isn’t it!! Great post lovely xx

Haha so funny, I love social media too and could quite easily live in a box on my own forever as long as I had my phone and wifi! x

This is spot on! I don’t even particularly like Facebook and I can lose an hour reading random status updates… Instagram is my real vice though, completely addicted 🙂 Even writing the word there had me checking my feed for a second, it’s a Pavlovian response! Thanks so much for sharing with #ThePrompt x

Tee hee! Social media is wonderful/terrible (wonderble?) like that! I waste hours on FB (my personal account) and the reason I keep Twitter at arms length is I can’t afford to let that addiction get as bad. I daren’t join any other social media! #theprompt

Heh, you could be describing most of my evenings, lunch-times and random coffee time-outs. Social media is an addictive thing, isn’t it? There have been times when I’ve settled down late in the evening “just to catch up with a couple of tweets” and looked up two hours later having updated my Facebook status, watched some videos on YouTube and commented on a load of Instagram photos …

Procrastination, moi? Now what was I doing …?

Oh my goodness, are you watching me? Hehe. You seem to have captured what I do perfectly (like now, when I should be working!). I’ve been deleting people who share BF posts, it can’t be a mistake now so it must be something else. Great post 🙂

Ha! Drifting into social media is so easy. It took a lot longer to write the post than it should have, and no prizes for guessing why. You’re right about BF posts, enough is known about the real agenda behind it. Glad you enjoyed it. thanks for commenting! xx
